Chemical Reaction- Is a result of a chemical change
A chemical reaction occurs when atoms separate, come together, or rearrange to form new substances with new properties.
- You can tell a chemical reaction has taken place when there is a formation of gas
- You can tell when heat and light is released - fireworks
- A formation of a solid also indicates a chemical reaction has taken place- the solid is called a precipitate
- can be seen in rust, tarnishing, and carbonated drinks
Key Vocabulary
Molecule-
Compound-
- Atoms that combine with other atoms to form larger units
Compound-
- two elements chemically combine to form an new substance totally different from the elements that make up the compound.
- Example: salt= Na + Cl >> NaCl
All molecules are compounds but all compounds are not molecules.
